Advanced Airside Airport Operations

Contact Training Department

Daniele OcchiatoDirector airsight Italy

Ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient airside operations is one of the most complex challenges for modern aerodromes. This advanced training course equips participants with the regulatory insight and operational tools needed to manage airside activities under both normal and contingency conditions. It provides a structured understanding of how aerodrome operators can maintain operational performance while meeting stringent ICAO and EASA safety requirements.

The course builds on international frameworks such as ICAO Annexes, EASA Basic Regulation, and EU Regulation (139/2014), providing detailed guidance on their practical implementation. Participants will explore the responsibilities of the aerodrome operator, the coordination between Air Traffic Control (ATC), Apron Management Services (AMS), and Ground Handling, as well as the integration of A-CDM (Airport Collaborative Decision Making) into daily operations. Special focus is given to regulatory updates, operational limitations, and safety requirements for apron activities, refuelling, and jet blast protection.

Through interactive case studies and practical scenarios, participants will learn to assess and manage complex airside situations — including Low Visibility Procedures (LVP), airside works planning, and emergency response coordination. By the end of the course, they will be able to evaluate operational risks, ensure regulatory compliance, and implement contingency and capacity management measures to maintain business continuity in challenging conditions.

This course is designed for professionals from aerodrome operations, safety, and compliance departments, as well as for staff from Apron Management Service providers, Air Traffic Services, and Competent Authorities. It is particularly suitable for experienced personnel seeking to deepen their technical knowledge and enhance their ability to manage advanced operational scenarios within the airside environment.
