Introduction to Aviation
International air transport is characterised by a complex interaction between many participants (including airports, airlines and air traffic control), their specific technologies and operating procedures. All areas of aviation are defined and controlled by a comprehensive set of regulations. This often presents considerable hurdles for new entrants in terms of understanding and comprehending the work processes and the corresponding regulations.
The four-day course provides basic knowledge of aviation and a comprehensive overview of flight operations and technical contexts in selected areas of responsibility of the various air transport partners.
During the course, participants are introduced to the national and international legal framework that is of great importance to air transport partners. This is followed by a detailed examination of the functions and tasks of the aviation partners (airport companies, airlines and air traffic control) and their interaction with each other. In addition, the basic procedures for conducting flight operations are presented and explained from the perspective of all organizations involved.
The focus here is on the structure of the various organisations as well as their daily operations and interfaces with each other. Together with the participants, course leaders and guest speakers work out the characteristics of air traffic: What are the challenges of landside and airside flight operations at the airport? Who are the main players involved? What does a day in the cockpit look like and how is it prepared? What are the operating procedures and technologies used during a flight? How do airlines interact with each other? How does air traffic control ensure safety at the airport and in the air? What different systems are available for this purpose?
These and many other questions will be answered and explained during the course with the help of practical examples and discussions, so that by the end of the course, participants will have gained a comprehensive insight into all aspects of international air traffic and the associated procedures.

Konstantin Metke, M.Sc.
Konstantin is a graduated engineer with a Master of Science degree in Aeronautics and Astronautics. He has specialised in airside airport planning and is proficient in integrating new technologies, such as unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), while addressing sustainability aspects in aviation.
In our company, his primary responsibilities include the planning, revision, and expansion of runway systems, taxiways, and aprons. Additionally, he assists our clients with the implementation of photovoltaic systems on airport premises and the design of specialised landing sites for drone operations. He ensures that all projects adhere to EASA and ICAO regulations.
Konstantin has successfully executed projects at major international airports, including Frankfurt, Singapore, and Luxembourg, among many other locations. His expertise renders him an invaluable member of our team, consistently striving to develop innovative solutions for the aviation industry.
Veronica Schömer, Pilot B787, M. Eng.
Veronica is a highly knowledgeable and experienced aviation expert with a passion for flight safety. She took her first steps into aviation 25 years ago in a glider club. As first officer on Boeing 737 and senior first officer on Boeing 747 and 787 Veronica gained 20 years of experience in commercial aviation with 7000+ flight hours. She holds a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering and a master’s degree in mechanical engineering.
With her thesis on confidential safety reporting as a starting point Veronica has an interest in the role of humans in ultra safe and highly automated systems. Specializing in European aviation regulations Veronica strives for the adaption of safety concepts known from manned aviation to the rapidly evolving and diverse drone industry.
Representing the International Federation of Air Line Pilots’ Associations (IFALPA) at the JARUS Industry Stakeholder Board Veronica supports the successful integration of manned and unmanned aviation.
Robert Marx, M.Sc., MBA
Robert Marx is an aerospace engineer and sustainability advocate dedicated to shaping the future of aviation.
With a background in aeronautics and astronautics from the Technische Universität Berlin and an MBA from the University of St. Gallen and Imperial College London, where he focused on sustainable business strategy, he combines deep technical expertise with a strategic approach to implementation.
Robert has gained valuable experience working with industry leaders such as Lufthansa Cargo in Singapore and Boeing’s Future Aircraft Manufacturing Business Unit in Seattle and Puebla. These experiences not only broadened his perspective on the aviation sector but also reinforced the urgency of making air travel more sustainable.
In 2021, he founded the Sustainable Aviation Initiative e.V. (SAI) in Berlin, a non-profit organization dedicated to educating young professionals and fostering collaboration to accelerate aviation’s sustainable transition. SAI has developed an accredited university module on sustainability in aerospace at the University of Stuttgart, covering alternative propulsion systems, sustainable aviation fuels, and regulatory frameworks. The organization also produces the What’s Up Aviation podcast and hosts webinars, bringing together experts to discuss the latest advancements in the field.
Beyond SAI, Robert is passionate about mentoring startups and helping bridge the gap between innovative ideas and real-world application. His work is driven by a clear goal: to push the aviation industry toward more sustainable solutions without compromising its efficiency and connectivity.

Organisational Details
The course hours are scheduled as follows:
first training day: 10:00 am - 6:00 pm
mid-training days: 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
last training day: 8:00 am - 4:00 pm
Coffee breaks an business lunch are included in the course fee. At the end of the course, all participants will receive an airsight certificate based on EASA training regulations, which is highly recognised throughout the aviation industry.
