Emergency exercises are an essential component of every effective Aerodrome Emergency Plan (AEP). Regulatory requirements issued by ICAO and EASA require aerodrome operators to establish, test and continuously improve their emergency response capabilities through a structured programme of tabletop exercises, drills and full-scale emergency exercises.
This interactive course provides participants with a practical understanding of how to design, organise, conduct and evaluate emergency exercises in the aviation environment. The training begins with a refresher on the fundamentals of Aerodrome Emergency Planning, including regulatory requirements, stakeholder roles and emergency response principles. Participants will then learn how to define exercise objectives, develop realistic scenarios, manage exercise documentation and establish meaningful evaluation criteria.
A strong emphasis is placed on exercise planning methodology, including multi-agency coordination, resource management, exercise governance and performance assessment. Participants will explore how different exercise types can be used to validate procedures, improve interagency cooperation and identify weaknesses before a real emergency occurs.
Throughout the course, attendees will actively participate in classroom-based practical exercises and scenario workshops. Working in teams, they will develop exercise concepts, prepare exercise documentation, facilitate tabletop sessions and evaluate exercise outcomes. By the end of the course, participants will be able to independently plan and manage emergency exercises that contribute to organisational resilience, regulatory compliance and continuous improvement of emergency preparedness arrangements.

Trainer
Andrea Carraretto
Andrea Carraretto holds a degree in Aeronautical Transport Sciences and Technologies. He also holds a private pilot license for aircraft and has experience as a teacher both in academic institutions and at airport operators, where he served as an instructor or ground operations.
Andrea has been involved in the management of operational activities aimed at enhancing safety levels and operational efficiency. He has collaborated in modernizing and improving operational systems.
Andrea has collaborated with senior management at the international airport, contributing as auditor to the execution of compliance monitoring, conducting surveys on ground operations and participating in the development of emergency response planning. Since 2024, he has been a part of the airsight Italy team as a Senior Consultant.
