As aviation organisations collect increasing volumes of safety and operational data, the challenge is no longer gathering information but turning it into actionable intelligence. Traditional Safety Management Systems (SMS) often focus on reporting, compliance and risk documentation, while valuable insights remain hidden across occurrence reports, audits, investigations and operational monitoring activities. This course equips participants with the knowledge and tools required to move from compliance-driven SMS practices towards intelligence-driven safety management.
Based on ICAO Annex 19 Amendment 2 and ICAO Doc 10159 Safety Intelligence Manual, the training introduces the principles of Safety Intelligence, safety data ecosystems and dynamic risk management. Participants will learn how safety data, safety information and safety intelligence relate to one another, how modern safety data architectures are structured, and how hazard logs can evolve into active risk intelligence tools that support organisational decision-making.
Through case studies, workshops and practical exercises, participants will learn how to identify hazards from multiple data sources, develop meaningful leading and predictive indicators, strengthen hazard log governance and apply Safety Intelligence techniques to support safety performance monitoring and management decisions. Real-world airport examples illustrate how emerging risks, weak signals and safety trends can be translated into actionable safety insights.
The course is designed for Safety Managers, SMS specialists, aerodrome operators, ANSP safety staff, regulators, ground handling organisations and aviation safety analysts. Participants should have a basic understanding of SMS principles and wish to expand their capabilities in safety data analysis, dynamic risk management and intelligence-driven safety decision-making.

Caroline Schlemmer is a consultant in airsight’s “Airport Safety & Operations” department. She works on safety assessments, SMS implementation and projects related to the development of airport Concepts of Operations (CONOPS). Further, Caroline is an instructor for the Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation training course.
She completed her master’s degree at the Technical University of Berlin (TU Berlin) in 2016, after conducting her thesis at the University of Washington, Seattle. Afterwards she started working as a lecturer and research assistant at the Chair of Flight Mechanics, Flight Control and Aeroelasticity of TU Berlin. Her master’s thesis on modelling and simulating longitudinal control surfaces of a flexible aircraft formed the way for her further research on aeroservoelasticity. She presented her research results on national and international conferences and in the corresponding papers. As a university lecturer for flight mechanics, she gained comprehensive experience in teaching and sharing her knowledge in German and English.
For airsight, she has participated in safety assessments related to non-compliant airfield requirements like non-compliant slopes. She also supported case studies assessing the feasibility of constructions sites in the vicinity of active runways. More recently, Caroline is involved in a jetblast study aiming to ensure accurate data through on-site measurements and the definition of mitigation measures in the post-processing phase.

Giulia De Vecchi, M.Sc.

Giulia De Vecchi holds a Bachelor's Degree in Aerospace Engineering and a Master's Degree in Aeronautical Engineering. She has experience in aerodrome safety, including the development of safety risk assessments, risk and change management, occurrence reporting, and safety performance monitoring, gained through both consultancy activities and previous work within an aerodrome operator.
Through her past airport experience, she contributed to the development of safety assessments, safety performance analyses, and airside inspections, collaborating with multiple aerodrome operator departments and supporting the management of operational and safety-related activities.
Since 2024, Giulia has been part of the airsight Italy team as an Aviation Consultant, contributing to international projects and delivering training courses with a focus on aerodrome safety.
