According to aerodrome regulations (ICAO, EASA, or others) changes at aerodromes are subject to a formal structured process and to the approval of the responsible Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), to ensure the continuation of safe air operations.

This applies not only for changes to infrastructure – such as airside developments, construction projects, or maintenance activities –  but also when operational procedures or organisational structures are modified.

An effective change management process is a legal obligation, aiming to ensure the continuation of daily operations throughout the development and introduction of most changes, no matter how big or small.

Nevertheless, as of today, very few precise regulations or guidance material has been published on this subject, and existing aerodrome management systems often show very little experience in formalising and standardising the processes which need to be followed when managing changes or other projects.

This course is based on the most recent aerodrome regulations and world’s best practices on change management. The course is customised to its audience, location and applicable regulatory framework, i.e. EASA for European sessions, and ICAO – or national implementation – for international sessions. It introduces attendees to the practical application of management and safety tools to assist operators comply with their legal requirements during any organisational, operational or infrastructural change. Practical examples are used to enhance the learning experience and attendees will be encouraged to participate in discussions and offer examples from personal experience.

Specifically, the course will cover: the practical planning and management of projects that introduce changes, whether these are construction, heavy maintenance, larger aircraft operations, new procedures or re-organisation; developing an effective procedure for managing changes that require prior approval; safety monitoring; and performance monitoring and measurement.
